If You Look Hard Enough

Wednesday, May 10, 2006

If you look hard enough there's a whole load of local artists in the nude published all over the place. This artist was lately spotted in South Africa's best Contemporary Art Magazine: Art South Africa. Bizarrely the article it was published with made no mention of the photograph. Maybe the Editor just liked the picture.

some might disagree but let this not decend into a debased conversation about penises. i was more concerned by the emaciated torso and skinny puppy legs. Ed is there something you're not telling us? You not into the vommie are you? or is this just an ad for the famous KFC diet? And what about the strange bruise on arm? i think you are setting a bad example for the first years. even a sussed bunch can be impressionable.

Cold... cold days. Ed here. The bruise was a gift from doreen southwood. A nice little cigarette burn. She kept it there for three minutes. Sick sick people.

Is this really the best you can do? It’s fun to have in jokes and all, but why bother promising ‘big things’ instead of delivering them? Maybe if you bothered to get laid instead of searching the net for nudie pics of your peers you’d be able to get down to more serious business. Even if your main audience appears to be the Michaelis first years. All the more so, as these are tender newcomers to the Long Street shuffle who are easily influenced and have not yet spent vast amounts of time drinking and picking up titbits. Look more closely at Heat magazine: The quality is rock bottom, it’s bitchy as hell and it works. Precisely because it doesn’t pretend to be anything other than what it claims to be. Have a nice art career.

FYI, the michaelis first years mean serious business. And who said we were newcomers to the shuffle..? Unsubstantiated generalisation perhaps? If anything, you learnt from us. Go back to the hole you crawled out of.

serious business is quite overrated. The whole joy of this site is that it isn't serious. Anyway, don't fuck with the first years - we'll be paying your salaries soon.

Ok. Guys. In case you haven't noticed. Art heat posted a few nudie picks in their first week. But the bigger things promised have been delivered. Stop checking out small penisis and scroll to the top. This inside info has not even hit the mainstream media. I am sad to learn that you are all wankers. Back to work.

by the way, the article next to which the picture of this charming man was posted (along with some unclad hussies and dead animals) DOES make mention of the artist - if you read carefully... its the difference between an article being ABOUT the artist and an article using the artist as illustrative material. personally I think the editor did a damn fine job of the latter.

I agree with you. I think it was very fine editing.

Agreed. You'll notice, however, that the author of the post claimed that the article made no mention of the Jilian Lochner photograph (true) not that it didn't mention the artist.

Touche, so it did. Still think it is interesting illustration material...
