It's official... this from the Cape Argus:

Artists high priority in SA's drug battle
By Moshoeshoe Monare

Artists and musicians are at high risk of becoming junkies, according to government research - and will have top priority in a new anti-drug drive. Replying in parliament to a question from the DA, Minister of Social Development Zola Skweyiya said: "Artists and musicians have been identified as vulnerable groups at risk regarding drug addiction and this vulnerable group is one of the priority areas of the new national Drug Master Plan. "The plan, initiated by then president Nelson Mandela in 1998, is aimed at integrating drug war efforts across government departments. The original plan has failed to jell, despite cabinet approval, as drug abuse soars.
Co-ordination and monitoring of anti-drug projects are handled by an entity called the Central Drug Authority. Skweyiya said: "The artists and musicians should be covered by the mini Drug Master Plan of the Department of Arts and Culture, working in conjunction with other relevant departments and key stakeholders." This formed part of the revised national Drug Master Plan, which awaited cabinet approval. Artist Tsakani "TK" Mhinga is among those suspected to have died of a drug overdose.Others, such as Afrojazz singer Tshepo Tshola, kwaito singer Kabelo Mabalane and trumpeter Hugh Masekela, have undergone rehabilitation. Asked by the DA's Hilda Weber whether any steps had been taken to give artists urgent support, Skweyiya said there were no formal measures to do so as yet.

It reminds me of this piece I posted about Veronique Malherbe and tik.

Tsakani (TK) Mhiga and her death

You know, she was bubbly sometimes and because I'm a shy person sometimes, I would ignore her. Sometimes I would close my ears. I must say, I took her for granted. Maybe this is because I was so used to her as well as the fact that we're born on the same year.
What frustrated me more in this case is that we never even spent much time together because of her busy schedule. She would want us to hook up sometimes but she told me what to do.She was so straight forward with me and would tell me what is wrong and what is right. You know, when you're doing wrong things and you're enjoying them and a friend tells you to stop because they are wrong. What do you do? "avoid them". This is what I did to TK and funny enough, I stopped them and she is not there now to be a friend again. I wish I can rewind the clock and delete avoiding her and we move on together as friends. What killed you does not really matter to me, you'll alwayz be ma friend. Unathi Daniel

Unathi Daniel says: Nhlanhla, we know that you're not gonna bring Lebo back. You might be off the hook for now, but what goes around comes around and when it comes your way, I wonna be there so that I can laugh loudly at you. I don't understand that there was no one to testify against you, they did not ask us if we would like to testify or not, they therefore cannot conclude by saying that there was no one. I wonder what were the last words that Lebo said to you before she die,I'm sure it was something negative because if it was sumthing positive, you would have told the whole world about it, considering that you sound proud that you killed her.Was it something like "why are you killing me?" or was she screaming and crying because she had a lot of plans for the future and was not ready to die? If you're really feeling sorry then you must still be hearing her cries in your ears.Talking about future, in my opinion, yours look very dark because at 20 you already have an experince of murder. Honestly, if I knew a good traditional healer, I would go visit him so that he makes you talk alone all the time and say Lebo, Lebo, Lebo, Lebo, without sleeping at night and if you're trying to sleep you start seeing her as soon as you close your eyes.
