TRANS CAPE Postponed Till March

Friday, August 11, 2006

So everyone’s favorite not-a-biennale has been postponed till March next year. The organizers of the event sited delays from funders as the reason behind this decision. I wonder if this has anything to do with the recent outcry over funding delays by the national lottery which has left many projects by charities and NGOs in the lurch? http://www.sangonet.org.za/portal/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=4744&Itemid=0

Is the LOTTO a funder of TRANS CAPE?

What ever the reasoning behind the postponement, it was obviously not a decision that was made lightly. The project has received so much press and criticism this is a really unfortunate turn of events.

Despite Artistic Director Gavin Jantjes’s unfortunate statement which completely disregards attempts made by the 2 Johannesburg Biennales - 'South Africa has to wait just a little while longer for its first large-scale exhibition of African contemporary art' – I was really looking forward to the event.
Damn this blows my holiday plans.
