Matt Hindley, Cameron Platter, VANSA party. A whole week of Art Fun
Sunday, November 19, 2006

On Tuesday I dropped by 34 on Long, where Matt Hindley was showing his 'Before my Time' above Murakami's shop. The tinkling of money kind of taints everything there and it's hard to seperate the work from that. I did try though, and I found the paintings quite good, the narratives strong and whimsical. The champagne was good, though I did hear they served Moet on the private view the night before.
On Wednesday was Cameron Platter's thing at blank projects, 'Party Time'. It was a whole sculptural installation, which worked really well, like stepping into a Platter animation. The completely overdone bloodstain on the wall, and the absence of the body combined to make it one of the most tragic artworks I've seen in a long time. Well worth seeing, even if you just press your nose up to the glass. The last bit of this weeks fun was the VANSA party at LB's. The turnout was surprisingly good, the dj's rocked, I couldn't stay long due an accumulation of hangover's but maybe the spirit of VANSA is changing... fun? youth? or maybe that's just the smell of their new found funding.
