X-CAPE: Call for Entries 2007
CAPE Africa Platform (CAPE) invites artists and cultural practitioners from across Cape Town and South Africa to participate in X-CAPE, the artist-led initiative of the TRANS CAPE exhibition. The deadline for entry has been extended to 20 January 2007 to allow X-CAPE artists more time to secure venues for participation.
In line with CAPE Africa Platform’s broad focus on contemporary African culture, X-CAPE welcomes participation of practitioners and projects from any creative genre; exhibitions, events, music, film and performances, to street art and poetry which engage with contemporary African creativity and coincide with the TRANS CAPE exhibition.
TRANS CAPE is the first in a series of large-scale arts events organised by the CAPE Africa Platform. The exhibition brings some of the most innovative and challenging contemporary African art to Cape Town. Over 60 artists from 19 African countries are participating in the exhibition from 24 March to 02 May, 2007. Next year’s event will be held in over 20 venues and sites along a cultural route that spans the Cape Metropolitan area. Expect to see art at an array of unexpected public, private, outdoor venues and sites.
X-CAPE invites artists and cultural practitioners to interact with TRANS CAPE’s local and international audience, which is expected to include leading curators, critics and journalist from across the globe. “X-CAPE contributes significantly to some of CAPE’s core objectives of growing networks and developing audiences for a sustainable local art market. It is therefore an intrinsic part of TRANS CAPE,” says Mirjam Asmal-Dik, CAPE’s newly appointed CEO.
CAPE will assist artists and projects with administrative and marketing support. CAPE is currently seeking corporate sponsors who will support the X-CAPE programme and Business and Arts South Africa (BASA) will contribute to the costs of marketing for X-CAPE. All participating events will be included in the TRANS CAPE Pocket Guide Book given to all visitors to the exhibition.
To participate in X-CAPE artists must return their registration forms by 20 January 2007.
Registration forms are available online on www.capeafrica.org or email a request to X-CAPE Coordinator Storm Janse van Rensburg on storm@capeafrica.org.

why was the george bush / ed post pulled?
Ed, you're fucking doos.
Looks like this is the end of artheat. And I thought artthrob was crap.
Bad journalism...can't get a story together. No Gossip. Nothing about art anymore. And truth? Puleezzze.
Its become a forum for a onesided rant...And its just boring. Like most of the art it used to try and comment on.
Mr Sloon, I think you should close up shop, and carry on doing whatever your dayjob is.
Anyone agree?
yip
anonymous (10.18 a.m.): prick! open your mouth and speak. You'll probably reach on this blog than you would on X-Cape, and without ant hassle, no forms to fill in, no administartion or publicity to sponsor, just you, your brain, your craft, & KWERTY.
Try. Don't let us wait for Artthrob....
well isn't that amazing. after all the slagging and bitching there are still people out there who think that art heat is a worthwhile project. fucking sure it is. someone is actually doing something, no matter what you might think of it. And if you have a better idea you're very fucking welcome to get it together. and that includes you, the person whose vocab seems to be limited to 'hairy'.
if you glance down at your keyboard you will realise it says QWERTY in the top row of letters. Vlad (i forgive you if English is your second language) perhaps you need to glance down more often in order to avoid such a dire turn of phrase and terrible typo's.
vlad, u idiot u. to think this shithole "EDHEAT" is doing anything significant for the arworld in CT..? more than what CAPE is doing? u got to be kidding??? Wake up buddy, or rather wait till u leave art school.. u r obviously living in another planet(or rather, learning nothing at all wherever u r)moron.no. i meant,Prick!
nice one waddy bru! Hey 5:23 am: coming or going?
Catch a zizz waddy.
Yes it's "edheat" indeed and we're all mighty sick of reading about him. But at least people are reading. Maybe, one day, someone other than Ed may also have something to say. And that could generate some satisfyingly interesting reading for all of us, if we could get beyond kind of knee-jerk anally-fixated two-year-old response of "Ed is hairy" etc. Nobody appears to have even noticed that artheat provided a project space to actually do stuff. So if anyone wants to stop whingeing and actually participate, go ahead and turn this blog into something you value.
