Artthud

Could someone please tell me what happened to Artthrob? I understand that they might be strapped for cash. But only one review for Cape Town... one for Jo'burg. Is that all that's happening in South Africa's art centers? It also rankles because they won't allow me to write for them, I had an email fight with Sue Williamson once. If you ever change your mind... The one highlight was Ed's diary. Although Ed is the most hated artist on this site, his diary was surprisingly well written, and rather engaging. Let's all consider the possibility of him and Christian Nerf getting the African Pavillion. I think those are happy thoughts.
Things are getting dire, however. Artthrob is fading, Art South Africa is too expensive (and been faded for a little while), Contempo is defunct. Were to from here?

Fresh coming from you Mr. Sloon. And it can get worse. Remember the shortlived period with Andrew Lamprecht at the helm?

There is only memory and history, the past was oxidised in our collective wake. It cannot be fucked. We are it, fucked.

Is Ed sucking your cock Mr Sloon? For someone who writes as well as you do, your positive opinion of Ed's diary is baffling. His latest written work reads like 'the diary of Adrian Mole' (co-incidentally the only English book that Ed has finished reading). It would be funny, if Ed weren't being serious. What a fucking prima-donna. It's tough being the only Dutchman intellectual in Cape Town, isn't it Ed?
Also the reason no one would shag you is that you're fucking ugly!

PS Sorry, I've been away in paradise for the past two weeks.

You see, Bob, how this stuff is not interesting. Stuff like 'and then I booked and air ticket and then I had a pizza' just not of interest. It doesn't stimulate thought except to remind us that Ed things this is cool. We knew that. He really needs a fan-base of 13-year old girls who actually care whether he booked an air ticket or not.

Having said that, I think it's pretty clear, Bob, that your writing is interesting and people are stimulated by it and they actually read this site because of you. I think if you went to New York and wrote about it, I would be interested to read what you thought about it.

So, you should be taking over more in the South African art journo scene, if it's falling apart. Maybe we should have a popular vote, and force art throb to take you on. Or maybe you should do a few more reviews yourself. I think we are fortunate to have someone like you, and it would be a waste not to maximise on your ability.

Will an edition of artheat ever go by without something about Ed. This obsession everyone has with him is very unhealthy. Oh, and he does have a very disturbing fan club of first years at Michaelis. Its a sad sad world we live in...

Robert, have you truly lost your mind? I can't imagine anything worse than those two in charge of the African pavilion. Where is their successful curatorial experience? Where is their history of working harmoniously with a group of other artists?

Actually, bugger the success angle, where is their experience? or failing that humility and willingness to learn?

No, we couldn't have such self seeking individuals running the show not to mention their long history of using project funds to finance their private wanking.

They would totally destroy any other South African's chances in future of curating the show.

The Chances of that particular curatorial team getting the Africa Pavilion are slim to none. Don't get upset yet, Anonymous. What makes me happy, though, is that young curators without experience or a record of success are being considered for the show. This bodes well, i think, for other youngsters like me, and, Anonymous, even possibly you.

Unbeliever! Heretic! All the signs that the prophet told us to watch for have been unveiled. Now all we must pray for is Mr Storr to do G-d's to work through his vessel.

The latest rumour has it that Robert Storr & Robert Sloon are one and the same person. Thus the last ditch Southern African Intervention. His strategy will play out over the yuletide: a local art bonsella, or a whole lotta weepin' going on...
