Artwork of the Week
Friday, July 13, 2007
We are loving Damien Hirst jokes lately. Well, sorry, but here's another. I found this on the Wooster Collective a site about graffiti art world wide., which had the following to say:Placed outside of the White Cube Gallery Masons yard at 3.30 am on Sunday night in response to the Damien Hirst's "For The Love of God" diamond skull exhibition.
The "For the Love of God" prank was created using 6522 Swarovski crystalsand took Laura, the artist, a month to create.
For the sheer amount of effort for a Damien Hirst prank it is definitely Artwork of the Week.

While I was on the site I also came across this pasteup by a Parisian street artist zbs who has the following to say:
the original picture comes from a project of the photographer (Pieter Hugo) the title of the project is (The Hyena men of Nigeria) his work is really splendid. I rework the original picture for making one of my own collage. I found that it is interesting to put this man with his hyena in a city like Paris, where it is impossible to see this kind of scene in the street, whereas to 9 hours of plane it is normal scene in the street of nigeria.
Go Pieter. First the cover of Aperture, then the World.
Labels: artwork of the week

It's also nice that he left the background of the photo out so it looks like the muzzled beast is floating in mid-air. I'm sure they don't even get that in Nigeria
I cant wait for the Musina picutres to turn up as Paris street art. They dont get this 'kind of scene in the street in the street' either.
