The Secret Adventures of Lady Anne Barnard is a solo exhibition by Carine Zaayman. It is based on Lady Anne Barnard's stay at the Cape of Good Hope as the wife of the first British colonial secretary, Andrew Barnard, from 1797 - 1802. In essence the exhibition aims to illuminate a part of the history of Cape Town and its environment, by tracing the ways in which history has shaped contemporary life, and to bring about an awareness of the long trajectory of contemporary culture and society in Cape Town. On display will be a series of digital prints consisting of photographs, drawings and texts from Lady Anne's journal. Included in the exhibition are excerpts from her letters and journals, chosen for their particularly intelligent and insightful observations of life at the Cape in the late eighteenth century. A video installation dealing with Lady Anne's ascension of Table Mountain will also be shown.
Carine Zaayman is a lecturer at the Michaelis School of Fine Art. This exhibition is made possible with the financial assistance from the UCT Research Office, UCT Emerging Researchers Programme, the PA and Alize Malan Trust and the National Arts Council.

astounding show, for the wrong reasons
AMAzing. this is a bleak view of what the future of Michaelis is coming to. beWARE
Another white woman in search of a role model. who wants to watch a video dealing with a dead chick's 'ascension' of Table Mountain?
I see this is to be followed by a lunchtime lecture. Does this woman have NO idea how bad this show was, how many lightyears away she is from getting the picture? How does someone as bad as this have a job like hers and, what's more, keep it? She is already the worst kind of useless dead wood Michaelis has ever had, and she is young enough to linger on ruining the education of intelligent, critical people for another thirty to forty years.
This is not a comment; this is caracter assisination.
Rich coming from you, sugarlips.
