Kitchenboy RIP
Monday, June 09, 2008
Flamboyant artist, journalist and well-known foodie Braam "Kitchenboy" Kruger, has died. Kruger passed away on Saturday afternoon at about 14:00 at the age of 58. According to his life partner, Elmarie "Amalanka" Claassens, his organs had failed. Kruger was admitted to a Gauteng hospital with bronchitis a week ago. Claassens, who remained by his bedside, said Kruger did not suffer.
"He was well taken care of and went peacefully," she said sadly. "We had been together for two years, but it felt like 600 years. He was the most incredible, loving and passionate person. He always looked ahead and never rehashed the past".
She said he had let loose his inner child and brought this out in other people.
"That is why we were always laughing".

Kruger was known for his dramatic paintings and his food columns. His paintings were symbolic and surrealistic, selling for tens of thousands of rands.
