Misty Mountain Hop

I suppose most people have already seen Lolo Veleko's 'Wonderland' in some capacity because the damn thing's been traveling since forever. Saturday marked my first viewing of it but I think that this clip sums up my feelings nicely. Just substitute the ipecac for Lolo Veleko works.

Yes I'm biased and think most photography is dull as dishwater but come on! Photographs of Evol kids and graffiti walls? I should have just wondered off to Kloof Street. But then again, that would have meant missing the snacks, which were immaculate. Keep up the good culinary work SANG!

Whilst I was lamenting Standard Bank's facilities for discernment the ever-knowledgeable Katharine Jacobs reminded me that Nicholas Hlobo is a pretty talented chap. Which is true. As is Wim Botha. So let's chalk this off as a faux pas.

After two weeks of prodding, Mr Young has yet to diarize anything. I guess you have to keep "sloth" in there if you want to maintain your complete collection of seven deadly sins. None the less I am on a mission. So It's time for the "tried and tested alternative" (apologies to the IFP).

Dear Ed,

Please download this mp3 and listen to it on repeat for the duration of the day.

Regards,

Tim

Also didn't really think much of the exhib, although free Lindt chocolates and Red Bull and chicken satay is always a nice incentive for otherwise boring work. I liked the little music-making lullaby handles though, gave me an idea for something.

Jokes about gallery snacks are clearly passed their sell by date.

On accepting the Standard Bank Young Artist Award for Visual Art, Veleko said, "it's an affirmation to me that when I self doubt the work I do, I AM NOT ALONE! This award means that someone in my own country has noticed and acknowledged my ideas that I would like to convey to the world about Africa and Africans. Therefore I am looking forward to collaborating with many Africans to tell our side of the story."

Arrogant in my opinion!

Well it has a historical context that makes it kind of unavoidable. Anyone who gets into her position is of necessity going to be representing African people, as they are not exactly drowning in representation.
