Studio Visit
Curated by Bianca Baldi and Kirsty Cockerill
With "Conversation" an ongoing project by Bianca Baldi
The AVA in partnership with Spier will be holding an exhibition in all
four of our gallery spaces for three weeks between Monday, 25 May to
Friday, 12 June 2009.
The curators will be visiting as many artists' studios as time
constraints allow between Thursday 16 April, Friday 17 April and Monday 20
April 2009.
All artists who wish to partcipate in a studio visit with the curators should send through their Name, Studio address and Contact details to avaart@iafrica.com
Artists who wish to participate must be prepared to drop off works that may be selected
at the AVA on the 22nd of May for the exhibition.
Conversation is the title of an ongoing project by Bianca Baldi which will be
launched with this exhibition. Conversation is a collaboration which uses the medium of the conversation to prompt an open-ended dialogue between two artists, Bianca Baldi and the artist being visited. This process aims to gain insight into the person and their artistic practice or process. These conversations will be documented using text, video, sound and photography.

Isn't this what one normally does when researching and producing knowledge/a show?
Why is the idea of an ongoing conversation between two artists/theorists/curators (in or outside of the studio space for that matter) at all profound or useful?
Are we all so doff that we have forgotten that that's what we are supposes to do as artists and practitioners in the arts: visit, hang out, look, talk, agree, disagree, think CONVERSE? Now we must bash it over the head with a mallet until it begs for forgiveness. Obviously. How very contemporary.
Looks more like Henry James's Boston to me.
